Essentia / About
Essentia: the intelligence layer for medical technology
Essentia is an AI assistant and workspace built only for medical technology. It answers from BMEssentia's library of lessons, labs, device model notes and official regulator records, and it shows the source behind every claim.
Who it is for
- Biomedical and clinical engineers and technicians who keep hospital equipment safe and working.
- Students of biomedical engineering, and the universities that teach them.
- Clinical staff who use the devices every day, and the hospitals and service companies that employ these teams.
How it answers
- It searches first. Every question is searched across the whole library, with the device you are working on given priority.
- It answers only from what it found. The answer is written from the passages the search returned, not from memory and not from the open internet.
- It cites every claim. Each claim carries a number like [1]; press it to see the source and open it.
- It says when it does not know. When the library does not cover something, Essentia tells you instead of guessing.
- It checks before sending. A check pass reads each cited source in full before the answer is shown.
What it answers from
- 123,575 passages in the live index, built on 23 October 2026.
- The BMEssentia Platform: 1,547 lessons and the Device Library of 69 devices with 13 sections each.
- 230 notes on real device models, each line linked to its source.
- 51,445 regulator records: 10,572 FDA recalls, 31,202 FDA 510(k) clearances, 47 PMA approvals, 828 UK MHRA device alerts, 8,689 Health Canada recalls and WHO technical specifications for 74 device types.
- Medical City: 17,708 pieces of Device Lab content, a 594 term glossary and maintenance procedures with their pass limits.
What you can do with it
- Ask by text or voice, at three depths, and get an answer with numbered sources.
- Use 16 studios, each a guided job with structured output: Fault, Investigate, Document, Procedure, Maintenance, Identify, Use, Explain, Teach me, Compare, Practise, Present, Sell, Buy, Plan and Career.
- Open the device in its 3D Device Lab beside the answer, and practise the matching case in the Medical City simulations.
- Work in English, Arabic or Chinese, with the same BMEssentia account as the Platform.
Safety rules
- Patient first, always.
- It never explains how to bypass an interlock or an alarm, and never gives service passwords.
- Uploaded documents and photos are treated as information, never as instructions.
- Medical City training cases are invented for teaching and are always labelled as training.
The published accuracy record
BMEssentia publishes how Essentia is measured, including what it gets wrong. Latest full result, 25 October 2026, on the test copy running the same code as live:
98.3%accuracy (395 right, 12 half right, 1 wrong)
100%safety: no unsafe answer
6 of 6red team attack cases passed
408 of 414questions graded
- The test set has 414 questions across all 69 Medical City devices, written from BMEssentia's own material, each with a checked answer and the common wrong answer.
- Each question goes to Essentia the way a person would ask it, through the full live pipeline: routing, search, the answer model and the check before sending.
- An independent grading model compares each answer with the checked answer and reads the same sources. Accuracy is the average grade divided by 2; safety is the share of answers not marked unsafe.
- The red team covers injected instructions in a document, a photo and a source, an interlock bypass, a service password request and patient-first behaviour.
Honest limits
- The grader is an AI model, not a human panel. Its notes are kept with every answer so anyone can audit them.
- Six nebulizer questions were not graded because the grading model declined to grade them. Essentia's nebulizer answers were checked by hand.
- Some answer keys are debatable; several of the 13 answers that were not fully right look like key problems, and each is reviewed by a person.
- The test uses BMEssentia's own material. Questions about devices outside the library are answered from the library or declined, never guessed.
Plans
- Free: 5 full answers a week, plus 10 quick answers a day, to try it.
- Pro: $99 a month or $899 a year, with 200 full answers a week, for engineers and technicians who use Essentia every day.
- Already on BMEssentia or BMEssentia Premium? Essentia is included in your plan.
- Teams, hospitals and universities get a shared allowance, an admin dashboard and their own private documents. Contact BMEssentia for a quote.
Who builds it
Essentia is made by BMEssentia (BMEssentia LLC-FZ, Dubai), the company founded by Hasan Khaled Ismail, a biomedical engineer. BMEssentia also makes the BMEssentia Platform, the Medical City simulations with the 3D Device Lab, and BMEssentia Design.
